Boating on Pine Lake
Pine Lake has been the heart of summer fun in La Porte for generations, and it’s easy to see why!
With calm waters, tree-lined shores, and plenty of space to explore, it’s the perfect spot for everything from a lazy pontoon ride to a high-energy afternoon of tubing.
Whether you’re bringing your own boat or renting for the day, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your time on the lake.
Where can I rent boats on Pine Lake?
Pine Lake boasts two excellent rental marinas that cater to a wide range of boating styles.
Pine Lake Marina and Boat Rentals
Located at 908 Pine Lake Ave, Pine Lake Marina offers high-performance ski boats, tritoons and pontoons. Choose from wakeboard, ski or tube tow packages and enjoy your watersports in style! They also provide boat slips, fuel, a boat store stocked with essentials and even pet-friendly picnic areas and restrooms with private showers. Everything you need for a comfy, full-day outing!
Pine Lake Rentals
Pine Lake Rentals (located in the Blue Heron Inn at 1110 Lakeside) specializes in pontoon rentals featuring comfy quad lounge seating and Bluetooth Fusion stereo systems - perfect for leisurely cruising and lake socializing.
Looking for a non-motorized option? Maple City Adventure has that covered.
Maple City Adventure
Located at 222 Pine Lake Ave, Maple City Adventure makes it easy to enjoy the lake at your own pace. They offer kayak and paddleboard rentals, including tandem options, with flexible booking by the hour or day. Also, they deliver the boats directly to the lake, making launching as easy as possible.
Public Boat Launches in the area
Stone Lake Public Launch
Stone Lake Public Launch
This peaceful, no-wake lake offers a public concrete ramp (16 ft wide and 60 fet long) that’s ideal for kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, or quietly cruising craft.
There’s a connecting channel to Pine Lake, but it can be tricky for larger craft. Sediment buildup or low water levels sometimes block larger boats, though dredging happens periodically to keep things navigable. Always check local lake conditions before setting out. For the most accurate updates, contact La Porte Parks & Recreation (they manage Soldiers Memorial Park and the boat ramp) or give a call to one of the local marinas mentioned in this post.
Public parking available at Soldiers Memorial Park.
Huber’s Marine (Annex South)
If you’re launching a motorboat or pontoon, Huber’s Marine (Waverly Road) offers a more reliable option. They operate a launch with fuel, accessories, and direct access to Pine Lake - no channel, no fuss. This is a paid service, but it’s convenient and well-suited for vessels needing full power.
Parking is first come, first serve.
For their 2025 season (May 15-Oct 10):
1 day Launch Pass: $10 in-state / $16 out-of-state
Season Lauch Pass: $90 in-state / $110 out-of-state
Things to Do on Pine Lake
Whether you're here for watersports, fishing, or just relaxing on the water, Pine Lake has something for everyone.
Fun on the water
Stone Lake Beach
Stretching across approximately 540 acres, Pine Lake offers plenty of room for every kind of fun: skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, sailing, or just drifting around on a pontoon. Holmes Island nearly splits the lake in two, creating both wide-open expanses and cozy coves for exploration.
Beaches & Parks
One of the best parts of being on Pine Lake, whether by pontoon, kayak, or ski boat, is the chance to pull up near shore and enjoy the parks and beaches.
Pine Lake Beach, along Pine Lake Avenue, is a local favorite. With sandy shoreline, picnic tables, and a lakeside walkway, it’s a perfect place to cool off. Many boaters anchor just off the beach, then swim in to enjoy the sand or stretch out under the sun.
Just beyond, you’ll spot Soldiers Memorial Park, which stretches across the south end of the lake system. From the water you’ll see volleyball courts, playgrounds and shaded picnic spots. It’s an easy place to step ashore if you’re looking to trade boat time for a little time on land.
If you’re in kayak or canoe, consider venturing through the channel and heading to the Stone Lake Beach. This newer beach area has lifeguards in season, a concession stand, and plenty of family-friendly amenities. It’s especially inviting for paddlers, who can land nearby and enjoy an easy beach break before heading back out.
Note: Boats and paddlecraft can anchor offshore, but you can’t pull right up onto the sand. Be sure to leave enough space for swimming and safe access when you come ashore.
Can I fish off my boat on Pine Lake?
You bet! Pine Lake is a fantastic spot to cast a line right from your boat. The lake is well-stocked with favorites like largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, yellow perch, and redear sunfish - giving anglers plenty of variety.
Early mornings and evenings tend to be the most rewarding times to drop anchor and fish, when the water is calm and the fish move closer to the surface. During summer, bass are often found near weed beds and structure, while panfish school up along the edges and drop-offs.
Whether you’re hoping for a relaxed day catching bluegill with the kids or angling for that trophy walleye, fishing from your boat is a great way to enjoy Pine Lake. Just remember—you’ll need a valid Indiana fishing license before you cast off.
