Flora Richardson North and South Loops

General Description

The Flora Richardson Preserve, often called the “Hidden Hundred,” is a natural woodland and wetland preserve lying between La Porte and Michigan City. Its North and South Loops combined offer a peaceful ~2.3 mile woodland circuit that stays mostly tucked under canopy cover, giving hikers and runners an immersive forest experience.

As you walk, you’ll cross foot bridges over small streams, tread along shady paths carpeted with leaf litter, and pass through varied ecological zones. The preserve supports rich biodiversity, with over 105 bird species recorded and nearly 300 plant species documented, making it a favorite among birders and nature enthusiasts.

Unlike many urban trails, this preserve offers a quieter, more natural setting -ideal for nature walks, listening to birds, or enjoying a slower hike away from traffic and noise. There are no restrooms or major facilities.
